Modern Art lovers (and Modern Art novices too) rejoice! For the SF MoMA is your temple. The worldwide known museum, mostly known for its first address in NYC, is also established in the SoMa neighborhood. At his foundation in 1935 (his elder New Yorker brother was launched in 1929), it was the first museum of his kind ever created on the West Coast.
Even though the NY MoMA is the most famous one, the SF MoMA has nothing to be ashamed of, as it contains a great amount of Contemporary classics such as Alexander Calder’s mobiles, Ellsworth Kelly geometrical canvases, Louise Bourgeois’ Spiders sculptures, Andy Warhol’s serigraphy’s… and much more.
Among other art pieces, you’ll love its varied installations and projects such as the Céleste Boursier-Mougenot interesting « Clinamen v.3 » or the excellent Ragnar Kjartansson video installation « The Visitors ».
And last but not least, you will have tons of fun in their shop, where Art meets design, decoration and literature. You’ll find arty dishes, tiny arty lighting, clever gadgets and amazing books.
